Exploring the adjacent possible… a new term for something we have done most of our lives. Exploring starts in earnest when you learn to walk. That little toddler, wearing only a diaper and an apple sauce stained t-shirt is in to everything. Kitchen cabinets, the stack of newspapers, the bowl by the front door with everyones keys, the stack of big sisters cd’s.
That little guy is merely exploring the adjacent possible.
The bigger we get, the bigger we explore. We are expanding our world by exploring the adjacent possible.
Then we reach a time in our lives when exploring takes a back seat. School, kids and a 40 hour work schedule doesn’t allow much exploration. All your focus turns inward and life becomes boring and routine. And we become boring and routine.
Tomorrow, or better yet, this afternoon take a new route home. See some new stuff, new faces, that new QuicTrip they are building.
Who knows, you might make some great discoveries. Rekindle the curiosity you had at 10 years old. It feels good and you will learn something.
