It's true, it shines every day is Southern California. Today you had to be inside the LA Auto Show to see the shine. The crowds were good and the displays were superb. Some manufacturers seemed a little more conservative than last year. GM had some beautiful auto's this year. The Cadillac Ciel was gorgeous and vaguely reminiscent of the 70's El Dorado. Over at Chevrolet the luminescent green Hot Wheels Camaro drew a big group of guys. I picked up the occasional, "I had one of those. Cool." Buick had their latest on display. My opinion, Buick has made the biggest advancements in design of all GM's. Kia and Scion were after the younger crowd with thumping beats and BIG video displays. They both had good gatherings around the leggy models and flashing lights. Got my attention. GM up 18% in August

DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) today reported total sales of 218,479 vehicles in August, an 18-percent increase compared with August 2010. Retail deliveries were up 22 percent compared with the same month a year ago and accounted for 74 percent of GM sales. Deliveries to fleet customers increased 8 percent. “Our balanced portfolio of trucks and fuel-efficient vehicles like the Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain are helping GM continue to gain market share, which has now increased in seven of the past eight months,” said Don Johnson, vice president, U.S. Sales Operations. “We’re carrying good momentum and we’re cautiously optimistic that we’ll see U.S. economic growth improve in the months ahead.” In August, year-over-year passenger car sales increased 18 percent, crossover sales increased 17 percent and truck sales increased 18 … [Read more...]

GM Sales Increase 8 % in July

DETROIT – Driven by continued strong demand for the company’s lineup of fuel-efficient cars and crossovers, and by improving full-size pickup truck sales, General Motors dealers in the United States reported 214,915 total sales in July, an 8-percent gain compared to July 2010. Retail sales for GM’s brands rose 6 percent for the month compared to a year ago, and were 1 percent higher than June. In July, total sales of the Chevrolet Cruze were above 20,000 for the fourth-straight month, delivering 24,648 units. The 32 miles-per-gallon highway-rated GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox compact crossovers saw a combined retail sales increase of 73 percent during the month. Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac September Sales Rise 22 Percent on Strong Retail Growth

* Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac retail sales increase 39 percent during month * Sales and inventory mix reflects quick transition to new model year vehicles * Company gaining retail market share with retail sales up 15 percent year-to-date * GM full-size pickup sales rise 62 percent; compact crossovers increase 101 percent DETROIT – September combined total sales for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac increased 22 percent to 172,969 units, driven by a combined 39 percent rebound in retail sales compared with last September. Each brand saw retail increases in excess of 21 percent, led by Buick, where retail sales were up 96 percent for the month.
