Daimler AG (DAI)’s Mercedes-Benz topped Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s BMW by more than 5,000 vehicle sales in the U.S. last month, coming within 1,600 of the lead in deliveries of luxury automobiles. Mercedes deliveries, helped by a refreshed C-Class car and redesigned M-Class sport-utility vehicle, rose 47 percent to 26,796 in November, the Stuttgart, Germany-based automaker said yesterday in a statement, topping BMW for a second straight month. BMW’s U.S. sales rose 7 percent in November to 21,521, the Munich-based automaker said. With November’s results, BMW’s lead for the year narrowed to 1,582 units over Mercedes. BMW sales have risen 12 percent to 221,073. Deliveries of Mercedes vehicles through November rose 12 percent to 219,491 in the U.S., the company said. The two are vying to replace Toyota Motor Corp. It's true, it shines every day is Southern California. Today you had to be inside the LA Auto Show to see the shine. The crowds were good and the displays were superb. Some manufacturers seemed a little more conservative than last year. GM had some beautiful auto's this year. The Cadillac Ciel was gorgeous and vaguely reminiscent of the 70's El Dorado. Over at Chevrolet the luminescent green Hot Wheels Camaro drew a big group of guys. I picked up the occasional, "I had one of those. Cool." Buick had their latest on display. My opinion, Buick has made the biggest advancements in design of all GM's. Kia and Scion were after the younger crowd with thumping beats and BIG video displays. They both had good gatherings around the leggy models and flashing lights. Got my attention. Toyota, Honda and Nissan were there in full regalia and the electrics were getting a lot of attention. … [Read more...]

A total of 31 orders have been received for the 2011 racing season, and all the vehicles will be in the hands of the customers by early July. During configuration runs on the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet (France), the teams and racing drivers were able to familiarise themselves with the racing version of the gull-wing model and commence their setup work for the 2011 motor sport season. Stuttgart – Mercedes-Benz started the year marking the 125th anniversary of the invention of the automobile with a successful month in January. Worldwide sales of the brand with the star were up 23 percent, marking another double-digit increase. A total of 82,700 vehicles were delivered last month (January 2010: 67,000). Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars: “January was a great month for Mercedes-Benz, and it marks an outstanding start to the new year. We were able to post the best January sales result ever and continue the positive development of the preceding months. Any project worth doing is at least 10 times the work and 10 times the cost you planned on. You would think after 45 years of business building, it would be like stacking LEGOs. Never is, that’s why we do what we do. The ability to build something where there was nothing always gets my blood flowing and my mind racing.
