myCadillac and OnStar MyLink Apps Now Available

DETROIT – Beginning today, owners of 2011 Cadillac models can access their vehicle information and OnStar services right from their smart phones. The myCadillac and OnStar MyLink applications, available as free downloads, provide drivers with unprecedented connectivity to their vehicles from their Android or Apple iPhone device. “Cadillac is focused on delivering the best ownership experience of any luxury brand,” said Don Butler, vice president, Cadillac marketing. “Now, Cadillac customers can schedule a service appointment using their smartphone, take advantage of complimentary transportation while their vehicle is in service, and have the service cost covered by the Cadillac Premium Care Maintenance program.” Features of the myCadillac and OnStar MyLink apps fall into three categories: location-based services, vehicle-specific information, and OnStar connectivity … [Read more...]

Feds slam driving distraction, but firms say technology is legal, safe David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau Detroit — General Motors Co. still plans to roll out its new OnStar feature that allows drivers to listen to Facebook messages and update their status, despite pointed criticism from Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. OnStar President Chris Preuss said the company is confident in the safety of the feature after conducting driving tests and has no plans to drop it. The application can also be extended to other social networking sites like Twitter. "Not only is it safe — all things relative in the vehicle — it's actually a benign activity," Preuss said.
